Neurosonogram and Echo

At Well Baby Hospital, Guntur, we are dedicated to providing thorough and compassionate care for newborns. Our specialized diagnostic services, including Neurosonogram and Echocardiogram (Echo), are essential for monitoring and supporting the healthy development of your baby.

Neurosonogram

Neurosonogram, also known as cranial ultrasound, is a safe and non-invasive imaging technique used to examine the brain and nervous system of newborns and infants.

Why Neurosonogram is Important:

  • Early Detection: Identifies potential abnormalities in the brain, such as intraventricular hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, and congenital brain malformations.
  • Monitoring: Tracks the development of premature infants and those with known risk factors for neurological issues.
  • Guidance for Treatment: Helps in planning and guiding treatment for detected abnormalities.

Neurosonogram Procedure:

  • Preparation: No special preparation is needed. The baby is typically calm and comfortable during the procedure.
  • Imaging: A small, handheld transducer is placed on the baby’s fontanelle (soft spot on the head) to transmit sound waves and capture images of the brain.
  • Duration: The procedure usually takes about 15-30 minutes.
  • Results: Images are reviewed by a pediatric radiologist or neurologist, and results are discussed with the parents.

Echocardiogram (Echo)

Echocardiogram, commonly known as Echo, is a non-invasive test that uses ultrasound waves to create images of the heart. It helps assess the structure and function of a baby’s heart.

Why Echo is Important:

  • Congenital Heart Defects: Detects structural heart defects that may be present at birth.
  • Cardiac Function: Evaluates how well the heart is functioning, including the heart valves and chambers.
  • Follow-Up: Monitors known heart conditions and guides treatment plans.

Echo Procedure:

  • Preparation: No special preparation is required. The baby should be calm and may be given a pacifier or fed during the test.
  • Imaging: A technician or cardiologist places a small transducer on the baby’s chest, moving it to capture detailed images of the heart.
  • Duration: The procedure usually takes about 20-40 minutes.
  • Results: The images are analyzed by a pediatric cardiologist, and the findings are shared with the parents.
